| The meadow has not been ploughed in living memory and has many types of naturally established wild plants. There are reputedly only 2% of such meadows left in Leicestershire. To preserve it no fertilizers are used nor pesticides. It is rich in wild life, insects and butterflies. |

| The meadow is not grazed in the early part of each year and a crop of hay is taken off at the end of July when the seeds have had a chance to drop. |
