Long Close
Contents

"A garden of exotic trees, luxuriant rhododendrons, shining camellias, huge magnolias, terraced lawns, lily ponds and herbaceous borders."

Long Close garden has been open to the public for charity for over 50 years.
In 2003 'Gardening Which' readers voted it to be one of their favourite National Garden Scheme gardens in England, Scotland and Wales. In addition it appeared in the 'Daily Telegraph' magazine 'Gardens to Visit - Over 200 of the Best in Britain and Ireland', has been featured on television three times and has also been mentioned in many garden books and magazines.

John and Pene Oakland purchased Long Close in the year 2000, but they had been overseeing the care of the garden for some years prior to this. During this time, many changes have been made and it is now a garden for all seasons. Many herbaceous borders have been replanted. In the few years a potager, parterre, cottage garden and woodland walk have been completed and a meditation and contemplation area is under construction. In addition, new varieties of plants are continually being introduced and the collection of Penstemons being added to.
